Miramichi Area Retired Teachers

Full House: MARTA 2024 September Breakfast

There is nothing better than a sunny and pleasant early September morning to entice retired teachers to gather for breakfast the day after Labour Day. They revel in their freedom and relish the fact that, while active teachers are returning to school to begin another busy year, as retirees they can celebrate a well-earned lifestyle where they are in command of their days and decisions.  This is exactly what seventy-four members of MARTA did at The Portage Restaurant, on Tuesday, September 3,  when they gathered for their annual Welcome Back Breakfast. It is a longstanding, annual tradition where new members are welcomed and returning members are eager to socialize and catch-up with one another.

With such an excellent turnout of members, the main dining room of The Portage was bursting at the seams, and the level of conversation in the room was definitely lively and animated. Amidst the laughter and smiles, there was time for members to enjoy a meal together and anticipate being the possibly of being winners of the morning’s prize draws. Before breakfast was served, Merle Milson said grace, a beautiful, original piece which he composed specifically for the event.

The lucky winners of the prize draws were:

Shoppers Gift Certificates – Michael Butler, Diana Henderson, Donnie O’Neill and Christine Silliker.

Free Breakfast – Dianne Buggie

50/50 Draw – Pat Boucher

Clockwise L to R: Donnie O’Neill, Lynne LeClair, Dale MacRae and Connie MacRae

Suffice to say that the 2025 -2025 year is off to a tremendous start for the members of MARTA and, looking forward, for all members of the 10 branches of NBSRT, next May, when our branch will have the great privilege of hosting the Fifieth Anniversary of NBSRT AGM on May 13 and 14, 2025. Its going to be another fantastic year, which has kicked off with a positive and uplifting commencement!
