In recent years, beginning in 2019, NBSRT has presented one annual scholarship valued at $2500.00 and one bursary valued at $2500.00. These are awarded to successful applicants who are in either third year or beyond in an accredited university degree program, or in second year or beyond in an accredited Canadian college program.
To facilitate this process, NBSRT established a Scholarship Committee to develop the criteria and, subsequently, to review applications received and determine award designations. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of a member from each of the 10 regional branches of NBSRT. MARTA has been very fortunate to have had Rick Hayward representing our local branch, for the past several years; however, his term will end in June of 2023. Therefore, MARTA will benefit from having one of its members to serve as his replacement beginning in July, 2023.
If you or another member you know may be interested, for more information please contact Rick Hayward via email at: miramichi.rick@gmail.com or telephone: 622-1413. He will be certain to give you an honest portrayal of the number of meetings involved (very few), responsibilities entailed and any other pertinent details.
Given that the sum of the annual scholarship and the bursary are each very significant, the potential for recipients from the MARTA Branch is positive, as one 2021 recipient was from the Miramichi region. Hence, it is important to have one of our members at the table. Please give it some serious reflection and contact Rick for further details.
