Max Aitken Academy is reaching out to retired teachers and inviting them to share their personal skills, talents and interests with their middle school students, grades 6 to 8 inclusive. If you have a particular hobby / activity, which you enjoy, perhaps students may gain a similar appreciation form your instruction and involvement .
Max Aitken Academy runs a daily activity period, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, for students of grades 6, 7 and 8, which runs in a rotational block of 6 to 7 weeks. The school is seeking ways to connect their students with the greater community. School administrators and staff are open to just about any activity or hobby that a person enjoys and may be able to offer. Some potential examples are: fly tying, quilting, knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, painting, sketching, sculpture, jewellery making, model building, rocketry, photography, music, drama, sports, and outdoor activities, in addition to a myriad of other interests and talents possessed by retired teachers and community members.
Having a regularly scheduled activity period at Max Aitken Academy already has demonstrated that not only do students really enjoy it, but they also have become more engaged and have gained a greater sense of pride and belonging to their school community.
If you or someone you know may be interested in offering to contribute your time and talents to a block of activity periods at Max Aitken Academy, or should you have any questions, please contact the Vice-Principal, Ms. Jayme Campbell, by telephone at (506) 627-4082, or by e-mail at jayme.campbell@nbed.nb.ca
