Thursday, March 21, had 30 members of MARTA in attendance at the annual Potluck Luncheon and Scholarship Fundraiser Auction, held at the Seamen’s Hospital, Douglastown, Miramichi. Situated on the bank of the beautiful Miramichi River, with its huge south-facing windows and high ceilings, the renowned historical setting made for an excellent location for this year’s event, especially given its bright and airy atmosphere.

Despite a day of typical March weather running the gambit between intermittent bursts of snow, rain, and sneak-peeks of sunshine, everyone arrived with high spirits and an eagerness to enjoy a delicious meal together, along with good conversation and much laughter. Without question the event’s auctioneers, Donnie O’Neill and John Bosma, made for a very entertaining “dynamic duo” who kept everyone in stitches of laughter with their sharp wit and spontaneous humour throughout the early afternoon.

In addition to the money raised from the auction items, money was also raised from cash donations made by some members, as well as half of the proceeds from the ever-popular 50 / 50 draw, which was held. As people collected their empty serving dishes and headed home with their new found treasures, one thing was certain: everyone agreed that it was indeed a great time and although it was the first time for a MARTA social event at The Seamen’s Hospital, it certainly will not be the last.
