In the event of the death of a retired teacher, the President of MARTA or his/her designate will contact the family/ significant other to determine whether or not an honour guard is requested for the retiree. If one is desired, the president/designate advise the family to request the pertinent funeral home have this announced on the radio with the funeral announcement, as well as to have it explicitly stated in the funeral home obituary. If the deceased person was a member of MARTA, the family / significant other should request this information also should be included.
The President of MARTA or his/her designate, will also contact the funeral home, as a means of ensuring clarity of information regarding the detailed request of an honour guard at the funeral service, in the event of any posted errors / misinformation.
The printed obituary and radio announcement will stipulate that, all retired teachers are requested to gather prior to the funeral, for designated seating during the service and the formation of an honour guard, afterwards.
