Becoming a centenarian is a marvelous milestone in and of itself, but when one realizes that such an occasion has many well-wishers, friends and a large family who wish to honour the occasion out of much respect and admiration, one must arrange one’s social calendar to accommodate everyone. Such is the scenario with MARTA member Mrs. Mary Flecther, who celebrates her one-hundredth birthday this month and has had a flurry of visitors during recent days, in celebration of such a momentous occasion. From good friends to former colleagues from Nelson Rural School, Mary has enjoyed the past week greeting guests, enjoying well-deserved accolades, gifts and good wishes, and the fine company of some people whom she has not seen in a while.
This is exactly what occurred on Friday, August 11th, when a significant number of retired teachers and former colleagues arrived at Parkland Miramichi to celebrate Mary’s pending birthday. Most of the guests were former teachers of Nelson Rural School, in particular, as well as MARTA Wellness Chair, Lois Gilliss, and MARTA President, Charlotte Casey, who brought with them gifts, cards and fine sentiments, which they presented to Mary on behalf of MARTA and NBSRT.
The coming days will see more well-wishers with warm, heartfelt sentiments and birthday gifts in honour of Mary, not the least of whom will be the members of her sizable family, as they gather for a memorable, birthday celebration in honour of Mary, as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as well as a fine lady who touched the lives of her students as a wonderful, dedicated teacher, a profession for which she has held a lifelong passion.
Happy Birthday, Mary! Savour every moment and relish each and every aspect of your incredibly special occasion. Best wishes to you, Mary, from the Executive and General Membership of MARTA!
