Wednesday, February 7th, a pleasantly bright and sunny day, had 71 MARTA members in attendance at its annual Winter Wellness Breakfast, held at the Portage Restaurant. Members travelled from considerable distances throughout the river valley to be together, including Upper Blackville and Sunny Corner to the west, Neguac to the east, St. Margrets to the south, and all points in between. With many ladies and gents sporting elements of red attire it may have been thought to be a nod to Valentine’s Day, but it actually was in honour of something of equal importance: Heart & Stroke month, a health issue which has the potential to impact the lives of all of us and those near and dear to us.
As members arrived and completely filled the main dining room, it was evident from the buzz of their continuous conversations, warm smiles and overall demeanour that this was a social event to which they had been eagerly looking forward. The level of pleasant contentment was palpable throughout the room!
To add to the fun and excitement, Lois Gilliss and the MARTA Wellness Committee held draws for Shoppers Drug Mart gift certificates, which yielded 4 very happy winners: Sheila Carroll, Francine LeGresley, Jeannie O’Neill and Marjorie Sinclair.
In addition to these great prize draws, the traditional draws for a free breakfast and a 50/50 cash prize were held. The winner of the free breakfast was Francene LeGresley, and the winner of the sizable 50/50 prize draw was Patsy Kingston.
